Weed Thoughts 5/16/2011

As we move through the planting season we have seen above normal rain fall and below normal temps.  I have received several calls about corn that has been underwater and atrazine has already been applied.  The question that everyone wants to know is can I come back with cotton or soybeans.  Since the label is the law, and label has a rotation restriction the answer is no!  When you replant corn you need to assume that all of the atrazine is gone and other weed control measures need to be taken.  Keep in mind that you are restricted on the amount of atrazine allowed throughout the year.

With the amount of rain fall that we have had over the past month all residual herbicides applied at burndown are gone.  Make sure to keep a residual in the field to control Palmer amaranth, because once Palmer and crop emerges options over the top of the crop are limited.  Have a game plan.  If you have any questions on a game plan feel free to contact your consultant or the Delta Center and we will try to help.
